Wolfendhal Church
Colombo 13

Perched on a hill overlooking the Colombo harbour, the Wolfendhal Church was established under Dutch colonial rule in 1658 under the tenants of the Dutch Reformed Church. One of the best preserved examples of Dutch period architecture within Colombo, the building is of distinct Doric style with massive walls five feet thick supporting its square vaulted roof at its centre. The shape of its foundation is in that of a cross, giving it the name "Kruiskerk" in Dutch. The Wolfendhal Church is the oldest functioning Protestant church in the country.
