Arugam Bay
Arugam Bay

A crescent shaped bay backed by white sand dunes on the South East coast, Arugam Bay is considered Sri Lanka's best surfing location. Once a sleepy fishing hamlet visited by a handful of die hard surf buffs, Arugam Bay now attracts a loyal following of dedicated surfers from around the world owing to its constant breaks off many points suitable for both beginners and the advanced surfer. The surf is up from April to October every year, and most of the action is centred off the main road running through the town off of which lie numerous properties ranging from rustic beach cabanas to more comfortable and family friendly options. Either way, accommodation can be found to suit any budget and board and equipment rentals are aplenty.

Even if surfing is not up your street, its laid back atmosphere makes it an ideal place for rest and relaxation and a good place to base yourself for excursions to the Kumana or Luhugala National Parks or a visit to one of the many archeological sites in the the area.
