Anawilundawa Wetland

Located between the towns Chilaw and Puttalam, the Anawilundawa Wetland is formed by a complex of seven interconnected irrigation reservoirs. A haven for birdlife, it is a designated RAMSAR site and is most noted for its large population of waterfowl and waders. With 168 species recorded here, the area comes alive between August and April when large flocks of migratory gargeny and pintail arrive to take advantage of its rich feeding grounds. It is also habitat to a large variety of raptor species and woodland birdlife. Although little known outside the bird watching community, it is an area of astounding natural beauty and serenity.
