Viharamahadevi Park
Colombo 7

Located in the heart of Colombo opposite the Town Hall, Viharamahadevi Park is an oasis of greenery amongst the concrete jungle of the capital. Established under British rule, it was first named Victoria Park but was later renamed in the 1950s to Viharamahadevi Park, after the legendary King Dutugemunu's mother, and statues of both its namesakes still stand tall at the northern end of the park. Its well tended gardens are dominated by groves of large shady trees offering respite from the stifling heat during the day, while paved walkways and thoughtfully placed benches make it the ideal place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. A designated children's play area makes it a popular venue for family outings, especially in the evenings when the grounds take on an enchanting atmosphere when illuminated.
